General Description

Vennard College has partnered with the Consortium of Online Christian Colleges (COCC) to allow you the opportunity to take a variety of courses for credit in an online format. The Consortium provides students with qualified faculty, a variety of college courses for credit, flexible scheduling to complete coursework without going to class, the user-friendly appeal of consistent course formats, and reliable and easily accessible web-based interface.

Online learning takes place using computer technology and the Internet along with your textbooks.

Registration

Students will register for online classes following the procedures established by Vennard College. Several days prior to the online course beginning students will be notified by the COCC office of the login date, their username, their password, the web address for accessing the course, their instructor's name and other contact information. On the course start date students may login and begin the course.

You may register by phone
800-686-8391
or by using the
Online Registration Form

After you have submitted your Application/Registration form you will receive an email message from our Admissions Office acknowledging receipt of your Application and giving you instructions for tuition payment.

Your Registration is complete when you have paid in full. Your registration for the course(s) is not complete until Vennard College has received payment in full for your classes.

When your payment is received, the Registrar will send you an email to confirm your registration and give you information for purchasing your textbook(s).

Several days before the online courses begin you will be notified by the COCC office of your login date, username, password, web address for accessing each course, your instructor's name, and other contact information.

On the course start date you may login and begin each course.

Program Particulars

The instructors will usually make contact with students to welcome them to the course and give them special information and specific instructions related to the course. Each of the instructors will facilitate the learning process for the students throughout the course. They will post forum questions to be discussed during the course, grade all learning assessments and provide specific feedback to enrich student learning and will have as much communication with students as is needed to satisfactorily complete the course.

Communication and contact with students is usually accomplished through the internal messaging system in the course, although external e-mail is available and is often used, and sometimes the telephone is the best communication tool and is used if needed and telephone numbers are available.

Courses last for 12 weeks (from the first day of login until the final paper is due) and are taught in a collaborative teaching/learning style. This means that even though instructors facilitate the course and assist all course members, students are primarily responsible for completing their own assignments and for initiating communication for any areas in which they need assistance from their instructor.

For success as an online student, you must be highly self-motivated and able to dedicate several hours a week to do your online coursework. It should be understood that online study will generally take a minimum of eight to twelve hours a week per course.

The software we use for online coursework is web-based and the course is conducted in an asynchronous manner, which means that you will not need to be online at any particular time. This means that you do not need to log in to the courseware system any specific number of times or at the same times as the instructor or other students. All course assignments, however, must be submitted on time in accordance with the assignment schedules posted in the course syllabus with extensions granted only with faculty approval.

Students are also responsible for communicating with their professors and submitting assignments in the manner specified by their professors. You can and should do much of your work for the course offline. Most of the reading will be from standard textbooks, although a few articles are posted on the course website. You should also type up most of the responses to the learning assessments on a word processor and then copy and paste them into the courseware.

On the course website (online) you will get any articles and course materials to read and review, submit your learning assessments from the course assignments, and post replies and contribute to the threaded discussions in the forum. Most of your communication will be through the internal messaging system in the courseware although external e-mail can also be utilized. This format for online learning allows you to get online and complete your coursework at times that are convenient for you.

There are no exams in the online program but every course has a Final Paper or Final Project to be completed. The topics for the Final Paper are available at the very beginning of the course and they are posted in the Introduction Section of the Course Information. The instructions for completing the Paper are posted there as well. You will complete the Final Paper on a word processor and send it to your Instructor as an attachment to an email message.

We are committed to helping every student complete the course, enjoy the online learning experience and achieve their best potential; but students must take personal ownership and initiate communication for getting the help they need immediately, rather than waiting weeks after the fact.

You must possess good computer skills and have access to a PC that meets certain minimum hardware and software requirements in order to take online courses. In general you must be comfortable working with the Internet, e-mail and word processing (e.g., MS Word) and have access to a personal computer (Pentium 266 or higher) or an Apple Mac (G3 processor or higher). You must also have access to the Internet for completing the online portion of the coursework as described above.

The Academic Office will distribute listings of available courses at the beginning of each semester, with periodic updates announcing the availability, schedule and registration times for online courses along with the onsite course offerings. In order to not prolong the completion of your degree, it is highly suggested that online courses fulfill requirements for the degree being sought.

Problems?

You should first contact your instructor for assistance regarding course concerns. For technical problems in the courseware, you should click on the "bugs" button from our courseware support team.

For other issues you should contact the COCC office by email at ask@coccdegree.com or call 615.224.1270 and leave a voicemail message if no one is available for the call.

Finally, you can contact the Academic Office at Vennard College for advice on how to proceed or resolve your concern. Again, students are advised and expected to raise concerns immediately, rather than late in the process.

Online Policies

Application Procedure: Complete the Online Application form also available in the Admissions Office. Note: Students entering by this abbreviated application process may take no more than six credit hours per semester and no more than 12 credit hours total.

A student who wishes to continue beyond 12 hours must complete the full admission application. All application materials must be received before acceptance may be granted. The Admissions Department will notify the applicant of the decision.

Admissions Requirements: Vennard College admissions requirements for students taking online courses are generally the same as for students enrolled in onsite courses.

Registration: Students may take a maximum of two online courses per semester. Online program applicants must meet the same academic requirements as all other undergraduate students.

Normally, a residential student may not enroll in an online course in a semester when the equivalent course is being taught in the classroom.

Online and onsite courses may be used interchangeably to meet the school's graduation requirements provided that the courses have either been taken with the College or have been accepted in transfer by the College.

Students under academic restrictions will not be permitted to take online courses.

You may enroll in a course without being admitted to an academic degree program, but we encourage you to consider selecting an academic program.

A maximum of 30 credit hours may be applied toward completion of a program of study at Vennard College. Students will register for online courses just like onsite courses. Registration instructions for online and onsite courses will be provided by the Academic Office during the course of the academic year. The student must meet with the appropriate academic advisor for registration assistance. Early registration is encouraged since each online professor will determine class size.

Repeating a Course: Students will not be permitted to take an online course to replace a grade received in an on-campus course.

Attendance: Our online "attendance" requirements differ from on-campus requirements due to the unique nature and compressed time frames of online learning.

Online courses are designed as outcome-based not attendance-based courses. This means that in online courses it matters more that you complete your assignments than when you complete them. This allows students to have maximum flexibility in completing their work when it is convenient for them. As a result, students are expected to complete all assignments according to the due dates and deadlines in the course schedule and adhere to the guidelines and instructions published in the course syllabus and given by the professor. The only exceptions granted will be with faculty approval and these will only be permitted with necessary and reasonable requests.

Auditing: There will be no auditing of online courses.
