KATRINA RELIEF
TEAM ON WEDNESDAY

Subject: Katrina Relief Update from Mark Doll
Wednesday, September 21, 2005: Today
all 38 of us were back in Bayou La Batre. We came into town
with only a tentative outline of what we were doing for
the day. As we came into town we stopped at the Bayou
La Batre Wesleyan Church to see if our services were
needed. The Wesleyan Church has become the area headquarters
for World Hope International
(WHI) since Hurricane Katrina hit over 3 weeks ago. WHI
is a faith based disaster relief organization that has traveled
across the world to aid in disaster relief.
The Bayou La Batre WHI team is
in charge of distributing food, water, sheets, baby items,
cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other various items.
They have been distributing items every Tuesday, Thursday,
and Saturday. Each distribution has handled an average of
350-400 family. As Coach Olson contacted the head of the
WHI team we found out that our stopping was an answer to
prayer.
|
|
|
| When we came in the WHI team
was in a meeting, and one topic of their meeting was how they
could keep the Thursday date on their schedule. They had just
lost 30 volunteers the day before, and needed at least 30-35
more volunteers to be able to distribute tomorrow. We were
all able to fill those spots and a couple more. The majority
of our group spent the rest of the day cleaning up from the
distribution yesterday, and preparing packages of food, water,
baby supplies and the various other items we will be distributing
tomorrow. The rest of the group went out with WHI and church
officials to help out at area homes. |
|
|
We all had an amazing day getting prepared
to serve hundreds of needy people tomorrow.
Coach Larry Olson
Thank you for your interest in this
story and the people involved.
Keep praying for them.
