College is committed to the academic success of all the
students it accepts. In the admissions process some students
are identified as having the potential for success, but
their application materials indicate that additional guidelines
should be put into place to help assure it. Such students
are classified as being provisionally accepted.
If
accepted, applicants who have a composite ACT score or high
school GPA below the level normally necessary for admission
will automatically be classified as provisionally or probationally
accepted. Other students may be provisionally accepted based
on an evaluation of the course balance on their high school
transcript, on recommendations on reference forms, or on
other indicators collected in the application process.
The
following guidelines apply to students who have been provisionally
accepted:
- they may enroll for a maximum of 13 credit
hours per semester;
- they must attend 90% of all class sessions
in order to receive credit from a course;
- they must meet with the Director of Tutorial
Services to assess their progress, arrange for tutoring
if needed, and for help with issues relating to study
skills and time management as needed;
- they may be required to restrict their involvement
in extracurricular activities as decided by a committee
consisting of the Director of Tutorial Services, their
Academic Advisor, and the Academic Dean; and
- they must achieve a satisfactory cumulative
GPA by the end of their second semester to continue to
be enrolled.
(Students who have achieved a GPA of at least 1.70 in their
first semester may have their provisional status removed
upon the recommendation of their Academic Advisor.) |
